An unidentified man was struck by a Manhattan-bound subway train Sunday morning at the E line subway station on 75th Avenue and Queens Boulevard in Kew Gardens, police said.
The train driver said the victim was standing on the tracks when the train pulled into the station, according to the police report. Police do not yet know how or why the victim put himself on the tracks.
A spokeswoman for the city medical examiner’s office said the man died from a blunt trauma to the head, torso and extremities.
One shop owner said she suspected the victim was one of three men who frequently spent time in front of the subway entrance.
A police officer on the scene said the man was struck dead immediately. He said they closed only one of the exits on 75th Avenue and decided to keep the station open for regular service.
People continued coming out of the closed exit, however, walking on blood evidence at the crime scene.
