The state Education Department released figures Monday showing a list of 38 schools in Queens that are among the most improved in the state based on standardized English language and math tests.
The results, based on tests given to borough fourth and eighth graders that compare results from 1999 with those from 2002, highlight a total of 515 public elementary and 197 middle schools throughout the state.
“This list of schools is yet another reason to keep investing in education and to oppose reductions in state aid,” state Education Commissioner Richard Mills said. “It shows that funding from the state and localities is getting results. And behind the data are thousands of success stories.”
In Queens District 28 had two elementary schools that improved English language test results by more than 40 percent from 1999: PS 82 in Jamaica and PS 206 in Rego Park, state statistics revealed.
A District 27 school, PS 105 in Far Rockaway, had the highest gain in math scores among fourth-graders, with test results rising by more than 40 percent, according to the statistics.
The following borough elementary schools were cited by the state for their improved English language test scores:
District 24: PS 87 by 38 percent and PS 49 by 37 percent.
District 25: PS 154 by 39 percent, PS 184 by 38 percent, PS 214 by 28 percent, PS 107 by 28 percent, PS 24 by 28 percent, PS 21 by 28 percent, PS 20 by 26 percent, PS 29 by 24 percent, PS 193 by 23 percent, PS 129 by 23 percent, PS 120 by 21 percent, and PS 165 by 21 percent.
District 26: PS 41 by 28 percent.
District 27 schools PS 106 by 37 percent, PS 47 by 35 percent, PS 232 by 30 percent, PS 66 by 29 percent, and PS 64 by 20 percent.
District 28: PS 82 by 42 percent, PS 206 by 40 percent, PS 50 by 31 percent, PS 99 by 30 percent, PS 101 by 30 percent, PS 117 by 27 percent, PS 48 by 26 percent, and PS 54 by 23.
District 29 schools PS 131 by 36 percent, PS 132 by 35 percent and PS 36 by 24 percent.
Five elementary schools were recognized for increasing standardized test math scores: PS 105, PS 87, PS 106, PS 22, PS 99.
Two middle schools, IS 680 in Jamaica and PS 207 in Howard Beach improved English language test results by more than 14 percent, according to the statistics.
No borough middle schools were included in the list for math test increases.
