Girls’ A Division
In a close game, White House Restaurant beat Dr. Donald Mussaffi, Chiropractor, 10-9. Whitehouse played hard against the tough Mussaffi defense. Scoring for White House was Corinne Lippert with 5 points, Jessica Piccolino with 2 points, Theresa Schwenk with 2 points and Rei Lem with 1 point. Scoring for Mussaffi was Inum Khan, and Samantha MacNamara.
Girls’ B Division
In a well-played game, Napa and Sonoma defeated Metro Appraisal, 27-19. Leading the way for Napa was Shannon Kern with 15 points. Ashley Ferrera scored 4 points and Andy Espanol scored 2 points for Napa. Espanol played a real good defensive game, as did Maria Moyola and Gina Depperman. Sarah Smith scored 5 points and Cat Senesi chipped in with a point. Scoring 8 points for Metro was Camille and adding 6 points was Kimberley Simon. Both teams played good exciting basketball.
Napa and Sonoma defeated Cosmo Plumbing in a strong effort, 20-9. Kern controlled the offense with 8 points. Ferrera played very good at center, shutting down the middle, and contributed on offense with 4 points.
When Ferrera was sitting, Espanol stepped in and helped control the boards on defense and also scored 4 points. Finishing up the scoring for Napa and Sonoma was Smith with 2 points and Depperman with 2 points. Contributing 2 points each for Cosmo was Jackie, Jenna, Amy and Rebecca. Megan Latham scored 1 point and played a strong defensive game.
Bantam Division
Donnolly Home for Adults defeated Lee’s Jewel Box, 23-14. Mark DePaulo led the team in scoring with 10 points. Kristopher Parents and Jonathan Lee added 4 points a piece, and Thomas Regan and Allessio Santoro each scored a basket, while Kennan Parente hit a foul shot. Christopher Owen, Arthur Avakian and Thomas Regan made some key steals and rebounds to seal the victory.
In a very exciting game that had everybody on the edge of their seats, Whitestone Diner defeated Stitches in overtime, 39-36. Coming up big for Whitestone Diner was Terry Tarpe, who scored 25 points and played a good game.
Stitches jumped out to an early lead with Logan Frankel leading the way with 12 points. Losing 15-8 at the half Whitestone Diner turned on the pressure with Louie Kabatnik playing strong defensively and adding 8 points on offensive.
Helping out on the offense for Whitestone Dinner were Kevin Campbell with 3 points, Chris Coppolino with 2 points and Pat Thompson with 1 point. Joey Bell had a good game as he played well defensively. Vinny Depperman played strong defensively and passed well on offense. Steven Foley and Derrick Caponi played well on both sides of the ball for Stitches.
JAM Service Company used a well-balanced attack to defeat Donnelly Home for Adults, 26-13. Mike Gallagher had his best game of the year, playing smothering defense that led to key turnovers and fast-break baskets that resulted in 12 points.
Patrick Berndt also applied the pressure, coming up with key steals in addition to scoring 6 points and cleaning the glass for 11 rebounds. Kenny Lehr ran the offense for JAM as he continued to find the open man while popping for 4 points and doing great work on the offensive boards, continuing to lead JAM in hitting the floor for loose balls and rebounds.
David Hazim continued to play hustling defense as he rebounded well and hit two big baskets in the first half. Jose Hasng had 6 big rebounds, while Sal DiMaria and Francisco Kyriocuv displayed tremendous hustle for the win. Donnelly’s Jonathan Lee led his team in scoring with 6 points while Allesio Santoro had two big buckets in the first half.
Minor Division
In a thrilling 49-48 victory, VFW Post defeated Duffner & Voight with the clutch shooting of Nick Katakiledes with 23 points and Anthony Sciffo with 13. Dave Marsala had 11 points and dominated the boards with Joe Ahmadza, who played spectacular defense. Ari Santis made some key defensive stops and Kevin Kuhnle and Brendan Corrigan worked hard on both ends of the court as all contributed in the win.
With the last seconds ticking away, Boars Head held on to win it against a determined Duffner & Voight team. Giancarlo Santillo led the offense for Boars Head with the help of Chris Garthright and Ed Nassar. Manny Barcena and Elliot Nassar provided strong defense and rebounding. Duffner & Voight was led by Glen Barker with the help of Oscar Martinez and Mike Jensen. Joey Kurtz provided power rebounding and strong defense but fell just short.
Novice Division
Cristom Construction battled Pee Wee Folks in a see-saw game. Christopher Regan and Christina DeVito led the team in scoring. Joseph Favalora, Lorenzo Colasante, Simeon Panides, Christopher Romano, Johanna Hasing and Kalyn Faller assisted with great defensive plays. Cristom lost to Pee Wee folks 19-18, and Regan scored a long shot with 4 seconds remaining.
Major Division
In another nail-biter, Varsi Deli went down to the final seconds before defeating Whitestone Taxpayers, 33-30. After Joe Likul hit what looked like the game-winning basket, never-say-die Varsi inbounded with 11 seconds on the clock, and Keith Caparelli hit an off-balance jumper to give Varsi the win.
Varsi was led by Caparelli with 13 points, Andrew Lehr with 8, John Kiely with 6 and Michael Berndt and Amit Chada with 4 each. Jose Barcena’s offense was kept under control by Whitestone, but he continued to control the boards for Varsi and his key steal and bucket at the end helped to nail down the victory.
