Kristen McEvitt may not have been at her physical peak Monday afternoon, but it was enough. The St. Francis Prep senior managed to fight off the effects of a debilitating stomach virus long enough to post an impressive 5-0 complete-game shutout over the Archbishop Molloy Stanners.
“It’s got to be up in the top two (games she pitched this year),” said coach Ann Marie Rich of her ace’s performance. “She was definitely on today.”
McEvitt struck out 10, allowed just two hits and walked just one Monday, raising her league mark to 3-1 and 5-2 overall. In 43 innings this season she has given up 17 hits and 6 earned runs with 84 strikeouts and just 12 walks. Her ERA is a whopping 0.98.
McEvitt’s only league loss on the season came with a 2-2 count in the final at-bat against first-place Mary Louis with two outs and runners on first and second, before a bases-clearing triple decided things. She will have a chance to get revenge Friday when the two teams hook up.
Mary Louis starter Nicole Losito tossed a no-hitter Monday, blanking the Christ the King Royals, 4-0. Losito also hit a three-run homer in the win … Robert Boland hit two home runs for CK in a win over Holy Cross and had a game-winning double against McClancy … the Crusaders’ Kevin Conlin hit a home run and tossed a complete game in a 10-3 win over Christ the King … Cardozo hurler Danny Rosenbluth, last year’s TimesLedger PSAL Baseball Player of the Year, tossed a perfect game, striking out eight in a 10-0 rout of Van Buren in a five-inning, mercy-rule shortened game … Bayside senior Anthony McCarty struck out 10 and fell one pitch shy of his second no-hitter of the year in a 10-0 five-inning, mercy-rule shortened game … Sophomore Ted Riofrio handcuffed Francis Lewis, allowing one run through six innings, and also hit a two-run single to center in the sixth inning to lead Richmond Hill over Francis Lewis, 6-4.
