Welcome to the Point. The Point being College Point. All the snow in the beginning of April made it feel like we should be getting ready to go Christmas shopping.

The College Point Memorial Day Parade will be Sunday, May 25, and will start at 2 p.m. Participants must report to the parade coordinator on 28th Avenue and College Point Boulevard no later than 1 p.m. The parade will proceed on College Point Boulevard to the Grand Stand at MacNeil Park on 5th Avenue.
The theme of the parade this year is “patriotism.” In addition to honoring all of the U.S. war dead, we also will be honoring our armed forces.
Upcoming events at the Poppenhusen Institute for Tuesday, April 22, at 1 p.m. include the Children’s Spring Break Program, International Dance Gala and Dances from Around the World, performed by The Once Upon a Time Theater Co. There is a fee of $5, or $3 for children, seniors and members. There will be a program April 25 at 1 p.m. called “Art Safari,” an animal-in-arts workshop, with instructor Joyce Raimonda. There will be a $5 fee.
On Saturday, April 26, there will be a bus trip to Historic Richmond Town Restoration Village on Staten Island. Tickets are $20 and include transportation and entrance fee. Tickets must be purchased in advance.
On Saturday, May 3, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., there will be a free stress-reduction workshop featuring deep breathing, visualization and coping techniques, healing music and herbal tea. Please call the Poppenhusen Institute to let them know you’ll be joining them for this workshop, which will help you relax during these troubled times.
Immanuel Lutheran Church youth group in Whitestone is sponsoring a community breakfast Easter Sunday, April 20, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. in the school gym. The address is 12-10 150th St., across the street from the Whitestone Ambulance Corp. After breakfast all are invited to worship at 10:30 a.m. in the church, around the corner at 149-40 11th Ave. Breakfast will include pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausage, coffee, tea and milk.
Go and enjoy a morning of fellowship with the community and the youth group.
A pair of twins led Cathedral Prep Seminary in Elmhurst to a first-ever state Class “C” Catholic High School championship over Archbishop Walsh. The team was coached by first-year mentor Frank McQuail, former PSAL coach from Murray Bergtraum.
Congratulations to Connie Holden, a seventh-grader from Sacred Heart, Bayside. Her depiction of the New York City skyline was selected to be on the cover of next year’s Police Athletic League calendar.
Andrea Clarke, senior at the Mary Louis Academy in Jamaica Estates, has been named a finalist in the National Achievement Scholarship Program.
Sabina says…I have a feeling that the clock didn’t want to speed ahead for daylight-saving time and proved this by sending us four inches of snow and a look at the previous winter.
