The Our Lady of the Snows Intermediate boys’ baseball team continued its strong start to the season by sweeping a doubleheader from St Sebastian’s, 9-3 and 18-6. The Snows’ record stands at 4-0.
Frank Sadicario started the first game and went five innings, allowing two earned runs on three hits while striking out eight. Ray Potestio pitched the last two innings, allowing one run with two strike outs. Offensively, OLS was lead by Jay Hausdorf, Anthony Langone and Potestio, who each had two hits.
Kevin Salcedo took the mound in the nightcap for the Snows and went the distance. Kevin allowed six runs on 10 hits while striking out seven. The Snows flashed some leather in the second game by throwing out a runner at the plate as well as catching three would-be steal attempts.
In the fourth and fifth innings, a few different players stepped up offensively for the Snows. Anthony Kelly opened the flood gates with a two-run single, Leroy Herbert singled while driving in a run, Ryan Paroulek had two hits and two RBIs and Frankie Sadicario chipped in three hits and three runs batted in.
Some other highlights from the doubleheader for the Snows were Joey Caraballo’s reaching base in all of his plate appearances, Jonathan Dupuy’s scoring three runs, Brian Biscotti’s picking up two hits and five walks, and James Reid’s going 3-for-4 with two RBIs.
PeeWee girls best St. Greg’sm St. Francis
The Our Lady of the Snows PeeWee girls’ softball team has gotten off to a fast start this season. Last week the girls defeated a very tough St. Greg’s team, 19-8, and followed up with an impressive win against St. Francis, 7-2. The OLS girls’ record stands at 3-0.
Against St. Greg’s, Julia Hannigan and Courtney Gratzer split the first six innings on the mound, with each girl allowing two runs. The offensive outburst was led by Kaitlin Smolen, Caleigh O’Rourke and Rita Romeo, who all scored home runs. Hannigan added two home runs for the Snows team while Sara Correa had four hits.
Other contributors were Nimmi Thomas, with two hits, as well as Gabriella Velasquez, Meghan Gratzer, Angela Chavez, Kaitlyn Biscotti and Ashley Tolento, who all added a hit to the Snows’ attack.
Correa started on the mound against St. Francis and pitched three innings while allowing two runs. Shannon Vetack closed out the victory for OLS by throwing shut out softball for the balance of the game. O’Rourke made two outstanding defensive plays in the last inning of the game to help earn the victory.
The Snows team continues to spread out the offense. Some of the highlights from this game were supplied by Smolen, Hannigan, Vetack and Correa, who all had two hits. Romeo, Tolento, Biscotti and Chavez each added a single to the attack.
