David Deutsch, an attorney, artist and community volunteer, will celebrate his 100th birthday Sunday with a party at Bayside’s Caffe on the Green.
The event, compliments of Caffe on the Green proprietor Joe Franco and co-hosted by the Bayside Historical Society, will honor Deutsch both for the quantity and quality of his years in Bayside.
Deutsch was born on July 19, 1903 in Lower Manhattan. He received his law degree from New York University and was admitted to the bar in 1927.
Deutsch was married to Judith Freger for more than 65 years, spending much of that time as a Bayside resident, according to the Bayside Historical Society. He has two children, Sondra and Joseph, in addition to five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Deutsch became a Mason in 1947 and was elected Master of Manhattan’s Vulcan Lodge in 1951. He helped arrange contributions to the Tourette’s Syndrome Association in 1970.
The centenarian devotes his time to the Scheuer House Senior Center in Bayside, where he doles out legal advice. He was honored in Israel for his work for the Hebrew Home for the Aged and the Hebrew Free Burial Society, and he met with former Prime Minister Menachem Begin, with whom he maintained contact.
A yearly contributor to the Bayside Historical Society Spring Art Show, Deutsch is an accomplished painter whose works have been displayed around the world.
