The Forest Hills-based low-fare airline JetBlue has inaugurated nonstop service from John F. Kennedy International airport to San Diego with a second daily flight to be added on July 14.
“We're delighted to be bringing JetBlue's low fares and award-winning customer service to San Diego, especially for all our loyal local customers who've been making the trek up the coast to fly JetBlue out of Long Beach, Calif.,” said David Neeleman, JetBlue CEO.
“With this new nonstop service, San Diego becomes JetBlue's third Southern California destination service from JFK, after Long Beach and Ontario, Calif., and the 22nd city on our growing route network.”
JetBlue offers an introductory fare of $134 or $129 if booked at www.jetblue.com.
The inaugural flight began June 26 with service daily from JFK at 6:10 p.m. and the second flight, beginning July 14, is scheduled to depart at 8:25 a.m.
JetBlue, which began service in February 2000, operates a fleet of 44 new Airbus A320 jetliners equipped with leather seats and television at every seat. The airline is schedule to take delivery on nine more A320s by the end of this year.
JetBlue recently ordered 100 Embraer 190 regional jets to be delivered in 2005.
At JetBlue, all seats are assigned, all travel is ticketless, all fares one way and a Saturday night stay is never required.
JetBlue serves five Florida points, three upstate New York cities, Long Beach, Oakland and Ontario, Calif., Burlington, Vt., Denver, Las Vegas, New Orleans, Salt Lake City, San Juan, Seattle, Washington (Dulles), and Atlanta.
