The 11-year-old Whitestone Wanderers started the summer baseball season Saturday with a doubleheader sweep over the Long Island Indians before falling to Youth Service Sunday.
Vincent Florido tossed a complete game, striking out six in a 6-3 win in game one Saturday.
Joey Depperman, Mike Dinoto, Nick Lamonaca, Nick Zavattieri and Tony Zorrilla each had a hit in the victory.
Dinoto and John Massa combined for a strong outing in an 11-3 win in the nightcap. Massa (double), Lamonaca (double) and Zavattieri (two doubles) had two hits apiece. On Sunday, a week after beating Youth Service in the July 4 Blast tournament, the Wanderers fell, 9-4.
After falling behind 2-0, Whitestone took a 3-2 lead when Anthony Polito belted a two-run single and scored on Lamonaca’s single.
Youth Service broke the game open with a six-run fifth inning.
The Wanderers got 10 hits in the game, two each from Massa, Polito and Zavattieri and one each from Depperman, Lamonaca, Rosenthal and Tony Zorrilla.
