Lleyton Hewitt Conducts Special Olympics Clinic, Aug. 21
Lleyton Hewitt will conduct a clinic in conjunction with the Special Olympics open to the public at the USTA’s National Tennis Center.
The US Open will serve as a distribution center in Flushing Meadows Corona Park as part of Feed the Children’s ongoing work worldwide.
New York’s Grand Central Terminal will be transformed into an interactive tennis extravaganza from 7 a.m. – 6 p.m. for the second Tennis Magazine Grand Slam. Current pros, legends and celebrities will serve and volley on a full size court, sign autographs and interact with fans. Scheduled to appear are James Blake, Chris Evert, Martina Navratilova, Lindsay Davenport, Maria Sharapova, Roger Federer, Chanda Rubin, Anna Kournikova and many others.
The USA Tennis Teachers Conference is an annual insight into tennis coaching that welcomes tennis professionals from across the country to share coaching ideas and philosophies. Guest speakers, clinicians will include legendary tennis coach Vic Braden, Dennis Van, and Paul Annacone along with French Open Doubles Champions Bob and Mike Bryan and their father, Wayne, conducting clinics at the USTA National Tennis Center.
A day-long festival of tennis activities for kids, including interactive games, musical entertainment, free clinics and the World TeamTennis final. Performing talent includes Smash Mouth, Monica and James Blake.

Through its inaugural ProAm event on Friday, Sept. 5 during the 2003 US Open, the USTA Tennis & Education Foundation will provide the opportunity to play with tennis pros on US Open player courts. Each of the 16 amateur participants will be paired with his/her touring pro. The $5,000 participation fee for amateurs includes breakfast in the official player dining room, a participant welcome package, use an official player locker room and two invitations for the women’s semifinal matches in the comfort of a luxury suite, (includes lunch). Wayne Bryan, author and coach, whose twin sons Bob and Mike have a No. One world doubles ranking, will emcee and provide commentary for the event.
