Lleyton Hewitt Conducts Special Olympics Clinic, Aug. 21

Lleyton Hewitt will conduct a clinic in conjunction with the Special Olympics open to the public at the USTA’s National Tennis Center.

Feed The Children, Aug. 22

The US Open will serve as a distribution center in Flushing Meadows Corona Park as part of Feed the Children’s ongoing work worldwide.

Tennis Magazine At Grand Central Terminal, Aug. 22

New York’s Grand Central Terminal will be transformed into an interactive tennis extravaganza from 7 a.m. – 6 p.m. for the second Tennis Magazine Grand Slam. Current pros, legends and celebrities will serve and volley on a full size court, sign autographs and interact with fans. Scheduled to appear are James Blake, Chris Evert, Martina Navratilova, Lindsay Davenport, Maria Sharapova, Roger Federer, Chanda Rubin, Anna Kournikova and many others.

Tennis Teachers Conference Aug. 23-26

The USA Tennis Teachers Conference is an annual insight into tennis coaching that welcomes tennis professionals from across the country to share coaching ideas and philosophies. Guest speakers, clinicians will include legendary tennis coach Vic Braden, Dennis Van, and Paul Annacone along with French Open Doubles Champions Bob and Mike Bryan and their father, Wayne, conducting clinics at the USTA National Tennis Center.

Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day, Aug. 23

A day-long festival of tennis activities for kids, including interactive games, musical entertainment, free clinics and the World TeamTennis final. Performing talent includes Smash Mouth, Monica and James Blake.

The Tennis Show at the US Open, Aug. 23-25

A virtual “Who’s Who” of the tennis world will preview the latest tennis products and services under one roof. The first two days are for tennis insiders while the event is open to the general public on the afternoon of Monday, Aug. 25.

US Open Practice, Aug. 24

At this free, six-hour interactive tennis festival, Sunday, Aug. 24 (noon to 6 p.m.) fans can watch their favorite tennis stars up close and personal as they prepare for the toughest two weeks in tennis and also enjoy a fun, free entertaining day within the context of the US Open.

USTA Opens NYSE, Aug. 25

Arlen Kantarian, USTA chief executive, professional tennis and Sean McManus, president of CBS Sports, will open the New York Stock Exchange.

Empire State Building Goes Yellow, Aug. 25

The Empire State Building, will be lit up in “tennis ball yellow” on Aug. 25 in honor of the opening day of the 2003 US Open.

USA Tennis and Education Foundation opening night gala, Aug. 25

The USA Tennis and Education Foundation, the charitable and philanthropic arm of the USTA, will host an opening gala featuring a silent auction to raise funds in support of programs that reach inner-city youth.

“Take the Field” Court Dedication, Aug. 26

In conjunction with “Take The Field,” a public-private initiative to improve school athletic facilities, the USTA will contribute to the refurbishment of tennis courts at Forest Hills High School in Queens with a special event including a dedication ceremony and tennis clinic.

Battle of the Badges, Aug. 26-Sept. 1

A tournament featuring New York’s finest from the NYPD against the City’s bravest from the FDNY will culminate with nightly competitions in Arthur Ashe Stadium leading up to Labor Day.

US Open at Rockefeller Center, Aug. 30-Sept. 7

The US Open at Rockefeller Center, presented by American Express, features live jumbotron viewing of the CBS Sports and USA Networks coverage, stadium seating and concessions.

Wheelchair Tennis Exhibition, Sept. 3-4

An interactive wheelchair tennis exhibition on the USTA National Tennis Center field courts at which fans will have the opportunity to hit some balls with world-class athletes.

Play with the Pros, Sept. 5

Through its inaugural ProAm event on Friday, Sept. 5 during the 2003 US Open, the USTA Tennis & Education Foundation will provide the opportunity to play with tennis pros on US Open player courts. Each of the 16 amateur participants will be paired with his/her touring pro. The $5,000 participation fee for amateurs includes breakfast in the official player dining room, a participant welcome package, use an official player locker room and two invitations for the women’s semifinal matches in the comfort of a luxury suite, (includes lunch). Wayne Bryan, author and coach, whose twin sons Bob and Mike have a No. One world doubles ranking, will emcee and provide commentary for the event. Grandstand Finals Sunday, Sept. 7

Fans can view the US Open Men’s Singles Final and Women’s Doubles Final on two large video screens; watch the US Open Junior Finals on Courts 7 and 11, as well as the Men’s 45 Doubles Finals and the Women’s Doubles Master’s Championships; and enjoy live music and entertainment in the food village for a modest contribution of $5 to the USA Tennis and Education Foundation.
