Who else but Yorki Munoz would become the first finisher from the College Point Road Runners Track Club in the Manhattan Half Marathon Sunday.
In a field of 6,877 entrants mostly from the tri-state area, Munoz covered the 13.1-mile course that stayed within Central Park itself in 1:17.56 good for 13th place overall.
The winner, Retta Feyissa of Peekskill, N.Y., was timed in at 1:11.56, while the first finisher from Queens was Astoria’s Jonathan Biles, who was clocked in at 1:14.10 for third place on a muggy, humid morning.
“The course was very challenging and the weather was humid,” said Munoz, a 33-year-old Jackson Heights resident. “I couldn’t run a good time in this kind of weather.”
Munoz and his CPRRTC teammates are preparing for the Club Championships, to be held in Central Park on Aug. 16, and will work out 80 to 90 miles a week in preparation for the New York City Marathon.
Other CPRRTC members to complete the course included Javier Palma, who finished in 101st place overall with a time of 1:28.51, and Nick Ng, who ran 1:28.51 for 116th place overall.
The first finisher from the Quantum Feet Road Runners was Sin Wong, an 18-year-old athlete from Flushing. Wong covered the challenging course in 1:35.18 for 263rd place.
