HOLLIS — A Queens man was arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated after he was involved in a fatal accident, police said.
At about 5:20 a.m. Sunday, a 1996 Acura and a 2002 Nissan collided at the intersection of Hillside Avenue and 191st Street in Hollis, police said.
A 23-year-old passenger of the Acura was killed in the crash, police said.
The driver of the Acura, Ramone Estevez, 24, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, police said.
The driver of the Nissan fled the scene, police said. Police were investigating.
ST. ALBANS — Two women were assaulted in the vicinity of the same intersection in St. Albans this summer, police said.
On June 26 at 12:15 a.m. near the corner of Baisley Boulevard and 120th Avenue, a man grabbed a woman by the arm, threatened her with a knife and raped her, police said.
On Aug. 4 at 10:30 p.m. near the same intersection, another man grabbed a woman, told her he had a gun and threatened to shoot her, police said. The man pushed her to the ground and threatened to cut her neck before she managed to flee, police said.
Police described the first attacker as a black man, 5-foot-5, 170 pounds with brown eyes and short braids.
Police described the second attacker as a black man, 6-feet tall, 200 pounds with brown eyes and kinky hair.
QUEENS VILLAGE — A 72-year-old man was found dead inside his home on 110th Avenue last week, police said.
The man was discovered at 8:15 p.m. on Aug. 6, and a firearm was recovered in the home, police said.
Police were investigating.
SOUTH OZONE PARK — Police have released the design of a T-shirt found on a woman murdered in South Ozone Park 12 years ago.
On Aug. 28, 1991, a woman was found stabbed to death in a wooded area near Lefferts Boulevard and South Conduit Avenue, police said.
The woman was described as Hispanic or white, in her late 20s or early 30s, 5-foot-2 and about 100 pounds.
She was wearing a T-shirt depicting a character from the Maurice Sendak children’s story, “Where the Wild Things Are,” police said.

HOLLIS — A 24-year-old man was shot in the hand Monday for an unknown reason, police said.
The man was at the corner of Jamaica Avenue and 191st Street when he was shot once in the hand, police said.
The 24-year-old went to Mary Immaculate Hospital, where he was treated.
Police made no arrests and were investigating.
LAURELTON — Police arrested a 31-year-old man on charges of murdering a 46-year-old Queens Village resident in Laurelton in June, police said.
On June 27, Carl Barnes, 46, of Queens Village was shot in the chest at the intersection of Merrick Boulevard and 219th Street, police said. He was rushed to Mary Immaculate Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
On Monday, police arrested Dwayne Knight, 31, of Floral Park, L.I., in connection with the killing.
Knight was charged with murder in the second degree and criminal possession of a weapon.
KEW GARDENS HILLS — A 47-year-old Staten Island man was killed in an accident on Parsons Boulevard Sunday morning, police said.
At about 6 a.m., a 1999 Dodge traveling west on the Grand Central Parkway Service Road collided with a 1991 Ford traveling south on Parsons Boulevard, police said.
The driver of the Ford, Raymond Dash, 47, of Staten Island, was rushed to Queens Hospital Center where he was pronounced dead, police said.
A passenger in the Ford, a 12-year-old girl, was treated for minor injuries at the hospital, police said.
The driver of the Dodge refused medical attention, police said.
Police issued no summonses and made no arrests. The accident was under investigation.
DOUGLASTON – A 38-year-old man was killed in an accident that started with a tree falling on his car on the northbound Cross Island Parkway between the Long Island Expressway and Grand Central Parkway early Sunday morning, police said.
Four vehicles were involved in the accident, which police said began when the victim’s Chevy Camaro and a 1999 Honda driven by a 22-year-old were hit by a falling tree.
A 1992 Ford driven by a 44-year-old man and a 1994 Chevy driven by another 44-year-old man then collided with the first two cars, police said.
The Camaro driver was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The 22-year-old refused medical aid and the other two drivers were taken to New York Hospital Queens with minor injuries, police said.
The investigation was ongoing.
OAKLAND GARDENS — A 40-year-old woman was robbed of about $10,000 cash as she entered her car in Oakland Gardens Monday, police said.
At 10 a.m., the woman was entering her car at 58th Avenue and 223rd Street when four men broke the driver’s side window and stole the cash as well as a watch from the woman, police said.
The men fled in a Nissan, police said.
After searching the area, authorities found the Nissan parked at the corner of 223rd Place and the Horace Harding Expressway, police said.
Police made no arrests and were investigating.
BAYSIDE — An officer at the West Point military academy was arrested in Bayside Tuesday on charges of sending indecent photos to a minor over the Internet, police said.
Sgt. 1st Class Nelson Pardo, 39, of Highland Falls, N.Y. was arrested at 222-01 Northern Blvd. at 3:25 p.m., police said.
He was charged with disseminating indecent material to a minor and child endangerment, police said.
LONG ISLAND CITY — A 40-year-old woman was shot and killed inside a home at 23-03 36th Ave. Wednesday morning, police said.
The woman, who was not identified, was shot several times in the head at 9:15 a.m., police said.
She was rushed to Astoria General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, police said.
John Scott, 35, who lives at that address was arrested in connection with the crime, police said.
A 9mm weapon was recovered at the scene, police said.
ASTORIA — A 33-year-old man was found unconscious on his kitchen floor in Astoria and was rushed to the hospital where he died, police said.
The man was discovered lying on the floor of his 35th Street home at 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 5, police said.
He was rushed to Mt. Sinai Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The city medical examiner had yet to determine a cause of death as of press time.
LAGUARDIA AIRPORT — The discovery of talcum powder at a ticket counter at LaGuardia Airport temporarily shut down the counter Tuesday morning, a Port Authority official said.
At about 5 a.m., workers found a white substance at a counter shared by AirTrans, ATA and Spirit Airlines in the Central Terminal, said Port Authority spokesman Alan Hicks.
“They found a white powder on the counter and on some of the computer keyboards which caused them concern, and they called the Port Authority police to investigate,” Hicks said.
The counter was closed, although the rest of the airport remained open, Hicks said.
After the substance was bagged and removed, the counter was reopened at about 8 a.m., Hicks said.
It was later determined to be talcum powder, he said.
The incident was under investigation.
FOREST HILLS — A 74-year-old woman died in the hospital after being found unconscious in front of her Forest Hills home Monday, police said.
At about 3:30 p.m., the woman was found in front of 104-20 Queens Blvd., police said.
She was taken to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center and pronounced dead at 5:30 p.m., police said.
Her death was under investigation.
