DG Sunday bests Stitches for second straight

Dwarf Giraffe Minor Division

In a Monday evening Minor Division game the DG Sunday AM team won its second straight as it defeated the Stitches team, 32-28. George Tsiklidis sank two free throws with 16 seconds left in the game to ice it for the victorious team. Dan Santeufemia, Leo Nin and Logan Frankel led the offense while Jonathan Soto and Kenny Lee were forces on the boards.

Paul Tsenesidis and Arthur Avakian added key baskets in the fourth quarter to help retain the lead for the Sunday AM team, while Billy Brady played his usual defensive gem. Chris Cacioppo and Steve Efkarpides played outstanding games for the Stitches team.

Dwarf Giraffe Major Division

In Major Division action, the Donnelly Home for Adults extended its winning streak to three games with an impressive 41-24 victory over Metro Appraisal Service. Donnelly was led in scoring by Jonathan Lee and Adam Breidbart, each with 10 points, followed by Jonathan Scialpi with eight points.

Max Meltzer’s play-making nine assists were instrumental to the scoring. Patrick Williams led Donnelly with 12 rebounds and added seven points, while Sean Gilmartin added a clutch basket to close out the first quarter. Metro was led in scoring by Filipo Gitoni with 18 points and the strong defensive play of Farrel and Jordan Weiner.

Dwarf Giraffe Novice Division

D & R Contracting played Feb. 3 against Franklin Printing with D & R winning, 23-15. Every girl on the team was able to score points. Alyssa Schlesser scored six points, along with Colleen Breneen with six points. Jacelyn Kulogowsli and Theresa Schwank played great defense and scored two points each.

Lacey Losgar and Rosemarie McNamee assisted on rebounds and scored two points each. The team worked together and played a great game. Jenna Fogelman helped the team by scoring the final basket of the game.

The game between Tiffany and the Whitehouse Restaurant resulted in a 20-12 win for Tiffany. Anthony Scarallo led the way with 13 points. Arian Florez Iannarella, Ismael Nehhas, Jake Shade, Dylan Chateau and Javier Gonzalez all contributed in the win. Whitehouse fought hard till the end.

The game between Tiffany and Dun-Rite was a low-scoring game due to the tough defense displayed by both teams. The game came down to the end with Tiffany winning, 13-12.

Tiffany’s team effort was led by Anthony Scarallo, Matthew Siano, Ismael Nehhas, Dylan Chateau, Alexander Tsiklidis and Nicholas Stamoulis. For Dun-Rite, Morris Richards and Joe Almodovar led the way.

In a well-played Novice A contest, Marble Mode squeaked by Rosa’s Pizzeria, 10-8. The game came down to the final four seconds as Rosa’s almost tied the game on its final shots. Marble Mode was led by Kalyn Faler and Andrew Grothman, who each scored big baskets. Amarice Carreras hit the most important basket late in the game to give Marble a four-point lead it would not surrender.

Good defensive efforts by Bree Bradley, Anthony Cantore and Matt Kanter helped Marble as well. Off the bench Melissa Kanter, Joseph Leone, Tom Kizner, Vanessa Falvella and Kevin Larrea also contributed to Marble’s second win of the year.

Rosa’s Pizza lost a close one on Saturday with the final score of 12-8. Monique Galanti not only scored but made some great plays on both the offense and defense side of the court. Ben Mehotic also was all over the court playing strong defense.

Chloe Fallon played one of her best games yet along with Daniell Klein, who got in the middle and made some good defensive rebounds. Samantha Favalora, James Wong and Michaylia Camilla played a good game with their smart play. With only six on their team, they were all over the place.

Champion came away with a big win over Whitestone Diner. Again leading the way was none other than Tom Foley. Mike McCutchen and Joseph Favalora played a great two-way game and added some scoring to go along with a strong defense.

John Zikas is turning out to be one of the better defensive players in the Novice Division, and he is starting to hit some key baskets. Chris Ryan is a steady play-maker and has a strong defensive game. Gino Centti is getting better and better with each game under his belt.

Dwarf Giraffe Bantam Division

Friday night VFW Post No. 4784 defeated DG Tuesday Night Basketball, 21-15. Thomas Regan put 13 points on the board, and Anthony Andreani added eight. The score remained tied until the last quarter when VFW finally pulled ahead. Strong defense was played by Christopher Regan, Tom Brady, Chris Owen, Kyle Ericlonks, Alex Langrock and Constantine Pougouklidis.

Saturday night VFW Post No. 4784 brought its record up to 10-1 by defeating Harpell Chemists, 39-31. A strong offensive performance was given by Thomas Regan, 19 points; Anthony Andreani, 14 points; and Christopher Regan, Chris Owen and Alex Langrock, two points each, which helped solidify first place for VFW post No. 4784.

Harpell Chemist battled strong. Kevin Campbell and John Falidas led in scoring for the team.
