TimesLedger Athlete of the Week: Paul LiVecchi

Each week the TimesLedger sports staff selects one high school athlete from Queens as the TimesLedger Athlete of the Week. This week the honor goes to Archbishop Molloy hockey player Paul LiVecchi.

Name: Paul LiVecchi

School: Archbishop Molloy

Year: Senior

Sport: Hockey

Position: Forward

Hometown: Richmond Hill

With the opening game of the CHSHL Class B best-of-three championship series tied at 2, Paul LiVecchi scored back-to-back goals to help lift Molloy past Holy Cross, 4-3 Tuesday night at the Ice Hutch in Mount Vernon.

Of course LiVecchi didn’t do it by himself. With the help of longtime line mate Jimmy Grogan and defenseman Jonathan Pflug, LiVecchi put the Stanners ahead for good with 3:22 left in the second period.

Less than a minute into the third period LiVecchi stuck again as his one-timer on a feed from Grogan beat Holy Cross goalie Matt Cammarata to put Molloy in front, 4-2 after falling behind 2-0 early in the first period.

LiVecchi also had a natural hat trick in the Stanners’ 12-4 win over Christ the King Friday to clinch the best-of-three semifinal series.
