The 26th annual Queens Half-Marathon (13.1) miles and the 14th annual Skaggs-Walsh 5K Road Race are scheduled for May 15 at MacNeil Park, 119th Street and Poppenhusen Avenue in College Point.
This year the 26th annual Queens Half-Marathon has been selected as part of the New York Roadrunners Grand Prix series where points are earned for the top men, while the Skaggs-Walsh 5K Run is a competitive event for all ages with awards in all age groups.
The College Point Board of Trade is awarding two $250 scholarships for the first full-time male and female students who reside in College Point or Malba who finish the 5K run. The 5K run is for those runners or walkers who have not yet graduated to the longer distance or perhaps for those runners who like the shorter distance.
National Running Center P.A. will have a sale and exhibit of running shoes and clothes at the event.
The top three male and female finishers of the half-marathon will receive $2,000 in prize money.
Spectators are encouraged to support the runners along the route by handing out water, oranges, bananas or by just cheering the runners along for a fun-filled day at MacNeil Park. The major sponsor for both events is the Skaggs-Walsh Fuel Co. in College Point. There will be free refreshments for all participants courtesy of Target stores and Jetro Cash & Carry.
Entry blanks can be picked up at General Fitness Center College Point; Greenpoint Savings Bank; Queens Saving Bank; Skaggs-Walsh Fuel Co. College Point; or the NYRRC, 9 E. 89th St. NY.
