Last year's parade cost the group $25,000 and included 15 live bands and additional marching units. This year Chairman Fred Mazzarello said he believes the number of groups may have to be reduced to allow for a $25,000 budget.
He does not plan for the parade to be any less impressive than in past years. The event has been recognized as one of the best in the New York metropolitan area, according to the organization.
Donation boxes will be placed in local stores and banks. Contributors can also send checks to College Point Citizens for Memorial Day, P.O. Box 564402, College Point, NY 11356.
Anyone interested in volunteering can contact Mazzarello directly at 718-939-3393. Parade meetings are open to the public. The next meeting will be held April 14 at 7 p.m. at the VFW Hall in College Point.
