This has just been the way my season has gone all year long. This past weekend was an important one for us as we headed to Northeastern inBoston. My Stony Brook team came out strong and won two games out of three.
We actually could have been eliminated from the conference playoffs if we had gotten swept, which in this case makes every game from now on crucial.
Unfortunately the one game we lost was my game.
On the one hand, I am happy with my performance since I only allowed one run through six innings in a 1-0 loss.
During the game, everything seemed to be working for me. I felt strong and must have been throwing well because a group of scouts had their (radar) guns out every time I took the mound, and they stayed for the entire game.
I am very happy because the offense finally seems to be coming together. We split on Saturday, winning the first game. We banged out six homers on Sunday, including one from St. Francis Prep alum Nick Theoharis.
The only problem is that the one run I gave up in my game on Saturday was one too many.
I’m torn right now. The team is winning, and in the big picture that is the most important thing. I am not used to losing and hate the feeling.
My record is 2-6 and yet I have the lowest earned run average I’ve ever had in college. I have lost six games my whole college career and didn’t lose six games in all of high school.
I just wonder if I have a black cloud following me. When I throw poorly, I lose. When I throw well, I lose.
There seems to be a common theme here.
At this point I’m just hoping to even my record before the end of the season, and the draft … well, I’m hoping that scouts believe my stuff is better than my record indicates.
The good news is we’re getting right back into the hunt in our conference. We have a very important series with Hartford coming up next weekend.
We need three wins, and I feel that the offense is ready to explode and back the pitching staff. I want to thank everyone for their support during this trying time in my career. I have learned a lot through this streak, and I am ready to begin another streak — a winning streak.
