Two players took center stage for the Depot Furniture PeeWee team, as Jason Edelman and Brendon Aretz played the game at its highest and finest level.
Jason played third base and made several outstanding plays. He also had one of the longest drives of the season, hitting the ball deep into the outfield. Brendon played second base and made two magnificent plays. He also got base hits both times at the plate.
Both of these players received game balls for their efforts. Jason and Brendan look like future stars in the Bayside Little League.
On Saturday the Outback Steakhouse team came out energized and ready to play, welcoming back Max Ganik and Ari Papagianis, who came off the disabled list. Both contributed with their powerful bats. Max played a smooth first base and Ari scooped up everything he could reach at second base.
Nicholas Voyniseas received the game ball after reaching base every time he came to the plate. His timely hitting ensured that the team remained competitive throughout the game.
Nicholas chased down several hits that would have certainly gone for extra bases. This game seemed to be the team’s best effort yet.
Papazzio vs. Clearview Paint.
Clearview Paint had a barn burner of a game as they edged Papazzio in a 15-14 victory at Crocheron Park Sunday.
The teams both displayed solid hitting in the see-saw affair. For Clearview Paint, Joe Ambroselli earned a game ball for clutch hitting while Anthony Chiodi was solid at the hot corner. Richard Carpio and Matthew Diaz were also recognized for their clutch hitting in the final inning.
Several players excelled for the Papazzio team. Sarah Kowpack and Dylan Arnero earned game balls for clutch power hitting and several good plays in the field. Connor Vance had a big hit, as did Gabrielle Amorelli, who also made a couple of good heads-up catches.
Kalliagas leads RP Collectibles
Ruaziaro Di Bella had a great day for RP Collectibles, hitting a triple and a home run and recording a putout at third base. Christopher (Christos) Kalliagas is improving nicely with two line drive singles, earning the game ball.
Texas Division
Ceriello defeated Kraft Food-Capri Sun, 10-5, in a well-played game by both teams Saturday. Ceriello was led by Zachery Mellado’s sparkling plays in the field and John Stathopoulos’ two hits. Alec Sullivan also pitched an outstanding game for Ceriello. Kraft Food-Capri Sun gave Ceriello a scare in the last inning with five runs and outstanding hitting from the entire team.
A day earlier Ceriello defeated Chalfont Construction, 11-5, in a hard-fought contest by both teams. Ceriello was led by Andrew Adler, who blasted two hits; Cameron Daniels, who also ripped two hits; and Dominick Ricotta, who drove in a pair of runs with a double. Both teams should be commended for their efforts.
Major Division
Pier 25A exploded for 10 runs Saturday, beating the VI Pizza team, 10-3. The power was supplied by Justis Bosco and John Paul Koulotouris as they went deep.
Danny Costa was unhittable as he hurled a complete game with 13 strikeouts and two walks. Despite only playing with eight players for most of the game, the Pier players kept their wits about them and strived to victory.
Minor Division
Omega Coffee Shop 7, R. Klein CPA 1.
Omega was led by the strong pitching of Danny Finn and Anthony Panepinto, who pitched six innings and gave up only three hits while combining to strike out 12. The hitting was led by Finn and Nicholas Ziangas, who each had three hits.
R. Klein CPA was led by Anthony LaRosa, who pitched four solid innings and hit a booming double. Kyle Eborle played solid defense at shortstop and threw out a runner at home.
Omega Coffee Shop 7, Padavan’s Paragons 5.
Omega’s attack was led by Matthew Sagianis, who ignited a three-run rally to break a 3-3 tie with a huge double and Omega never looked back. Michael McGrath contributed a big two-run double to help the cause.
Padavan’s was led by the hitting of Dean Vasiliou, who had two doubles and two runs scored, and by Anthony Palermo, who also had two hits.
Omega’s Coffee Shop 9, Applebee’s of Bayside 2.
Omega was led by the hitting of Joe Black with two hits and two RBIs and by Alex Langrock, who drove in his first run of the year with a huge hit. Anthony Panepinto and Danny Finn threw six strong innings, combining on a four-hitter with 14 strikeouts.
Applebee’s received a strong pitching performance from Steven DeMaio in his three innings of work as he struck out five and a strong hitting and defensive performance by Brandon Putre, who had two hits and a sensational diving catch at second base to take a hit away from Omega.
Mittman’s Medics 8, Douglaston Development 3.
Eddie O’Boyle continued to contribute from both sides of the field, pitching three scoreless innings and having a pair of singles and a double as well as scoring three runs for Mittman’s Medics.
Dillon DePinto provided stellar defense, including a diving catch in foul territory beyond third base.
In his first start of the season at first base, Tommy Vonortas was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, including the game-winning RBI. Patrick Schule had two hits and three runs scored and closed out the game on the mound, striking out seven in three innings.
Mittman’s Medics 7, Omega’s Coffee Shop 6.
After catching the first three innings, Walter Bonne moved to the outfield where he was solid. He also had two hits to keep the game tight.
Gregory Stathopolos reached base three times and scored two runs. He closed out the game at catcher and threw out two runners attempting to steal second.
Danny Simon provided the dramatic game-winning hit with two out in the final inning with a single to right field to break the deadlock.
