Corona’s Marco Monjardin surged to the front after the mile and a half mark and captured the fifth annual Quantum Feet 5K through the streets of Fresh Meadows and on the Cunningham Park Green Belt Trail Sunday morning.
The 24-year-old, a member of the College Point Road Runners Track Club, covered the course that started on 75th Avenue near 190th street and ended on 189th street and Union Turnpike in 16:39.6.
After Jason Corley of Jamaica set the pace, Monjardin took over midway through and concentrated on his 5:20 pace. He ran relaxed and comfortably in the same race he ran in two years ago, when he clocked in at 17:00.
Adam Kurlinski of Kew Gardens rallied from 10th and finished second in 17:01.5.
The first woman to cross the finish line was Susan Yang of Fresh Meadows, who took the lead after the initial mile, felt confident and was clocked at 20:05.4 for 38th overall. Yang is looking forward to the Hellgate 5K in Astoria Saturday, when the gun goes off at 9:30 a.m.
Rounding out the top ten finishers were Phil Glackette, whose 17:03.9 earned him third place, Corley (17:08.5), Jamie Palacios (17:12.4), Alfredo Hernandez (17:13.4), Leonardo Palacios (17:15.2), Aurec Garcia (17:31.4), Arthur Richards (17:38.3) and Marvin Andrade (17:48.7).
Proceeds go to Steppingstone School, located in Flushing and councilman David Weprin was on hand to greet the runners at the start of the race.
