LONG ISLAND CITY — A Bayside cop showed “outstanding police work,” police said, for his arrest last Friday of wanted burglar Stephen Jacks on the Queensborough Bridge.
Sgt. Kevin Harford, who is assigned to the Midtown North precinct in Manhattan but grew up in Bayside, was driving home over the bridge when he saw a black Mercedes that matched a vehicle used in a past burglary that Harford had investigated, police said.
After Harford communicated with his command, he arrested Jacks on the lower level of the bridge with the help of the 108th Precinct and the Sheriff’s Department, according to police.
Jacks has been charged with two counts of burglary in two separate locations, one on the Upper East Side and one near Columbus Circle, police said. Coincidentally, Jacks is also from the Bayside area; police said his address is 75-05 210th St. in Oakland Gardens.
