Shrek 2 and Harry Potter were great and enjoyed by the children. There was also golfing, a visit to the library, fireworks from Shea Stadium and a bridal shower at Crystal Garden in Huntington Village.We then had the Big A Aqueduct fair (between the raindrops) Ñ there were racing pigs, Stevana's Fillies, a tiger show, Lance Gifford Magic and Hollywood Circus. The Poppenhusen Institute's recent children's show at MacNeil Park, “On Stage,” by Russian/American Kids Circus, was wonderful and had everyone watching it, children and adults, enjoying themselves.The Poppenhusen Institute also sponsored “Savannah Sky,” performing country music with the Poppenhusen line dancers and instructors Ellen and Ira Lengel.The Sensational Kids Day Camp from St. Fidelis with Miss Jenny recently held an event with entertainment from Garfield and DJ Dance Party. Their next excursion will be to the Long Island Game Farm in Manorville. Some of the Sensational Kids are Terrence King and PJ and Jessica Stillwagon.Country line dance lessons, beginning with an open house on Sept. 20 and continuing on Monday evenings, will be from 7:15 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. The open house will feature a free introductory lesson at the Poppenhusen Institute, 114-04 14th Rd., College Point. A fee of $6 per person is required. Beginners are welcome. No partner needed. Megan is the daughter of Robert and Maryann D'Orazi and plans to attend St. John's University. She is also the granddaughter of John and Marion Tie. Poppenhusen Perseverance Awards were given to Jennifer Ward of PS 129; Somaya Sahebzada and Andres Rojas of PS 29; Jonathan Mathis and Shandise Spurling of St. John's Lutheran School; Kosima Malikyan and Blanca Hernandez of St. Agnes High School; and Anastasia Georgondopoulous of JHS 194.In the last few years children of the sixth-grade classes of PS 29 and 129 have collected pennies for the purpose of contributing to local organizations. They collected $2,000, and checks were presented to Poppenhusen Institute; Betty Pegen; the College Point Ambulance Corp; Bridge to Life; and the food pantry at the First Reformed Church. The new historic picture book on early College Point is available at the Poppenhusen Institute for $20 plus $1.73 sales tax. The First Reformed Church of College Point at 14th Avenue and 119th Street will be holding its ice cream social and dog show Saturday, Aug. 14, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sabina Says…Enjoy each and every day with those you love and what you love to do.
