If it were up to Corcoran, he would have been home Friday, watching the Major League Soccer Draft on television. But his father convinced the St. John's standout to attend the draft in person at the Baltimore Convention Center. They sat together with the general audience in the back, where they learned Corcoran was drafted by the MetroStars 25th overall, the first pick of the third round. “My father actually had to talk me into coming down because I wasn't sure I was going to be picked up by anyone. To get picked up by the MetroStars is like a dream come true,” Corcoran said. “Because of my injuries, I wasn't sure. I played in only eight games and I was fit for only one of them. I wasn't sure if that was enough to get drafted. Luckily it was, and I'm excited.”Corcoran only played eight games for the Red Storm this season, recovering from a stress fracture in his left foot suffered over the summer before breaking his right foot in the middle of the season. He played through that pain before breaking his left foot again.”Everything went great,” he said of post-season surgery on his right foot. “It's healed. The left foot should be good, Wednesday, when I got (to the) doctors.”A natural midfielder, Corcoran played as an outside back for St. John's this year, which is where he is more likely to see some playing time for the MetroStars. The team is deepest at the midfield spot, with league MVP Amado Guevara, Eddie Gaven, Mark Lisi and Gilberto all returning. “St. John's is a great program with a winning tradition,” said MetroStars coach Bob Bradley. “I think Chris is a player with a winning attitude and winning mentality, a very good competitor, a player who is really ready to put a lot into becoming a good professional player. Lauren Tartamella's basket with 0.4 second left lifted the Lady Knights over conference rival New Haven Saturday night. Tartamella finished with 12 points and Shonda Holder and Katie Brown each scored 18 points to lead Queens (5-6, 5-5 NYCAC), which rebounded after a pair of tough losses. Alanna Zahora had 22 points, Adelina Gentry had 12 and former Molloy standout Keri-Anne Jeter and Tristan Jackson scored 10 points apiece for New Haven (4-9, 4-6 NYCAC).Bridgeport 84, Queens College 80. Holder led Queens with 33 points and 20 rebounds, her fifth double-double of the year.
