She got an update last week from the corps where she learned that the project is outside its jurisdiction since the Queensbridge Park wall is city property. “They can't repair it,” Maloney said during the meeting at Kaufman Astoria Studios in Astoria. The 70-year-old retaining wall on the East River, which is riddled with cracks and divots, looks like it was hit by an earthquake. For years, officials have been trying to raise money to repair the eyesore. About $1 million in city, state and federal funds has already gone to the project. In July 2002, Maloney and U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley (D-Jackson Heights) and City Councilman Eric Gioia (D-Sunnyside) secured $350,000 for the initial corps' study. And in July, Maloney and State Assemblywoman Cathy Nolan secured another $825,000.
