69th Pct. Cops Look Ahead to Warm Weather Crime

By Helen Klein

With summer just around the corner, the 69th Precinct is stepping up its quality-of-life enforcement. At the May meeting of the Friends United Block Association (FUBA), which was held at Temple Shaare Emeth, 6012 Farragut Road, Sergeant Joel Dickerman, from the precinct’s community affairs department, told his listeners, “With the warm weather coming, we have a lot going on with quality-of-life enforcement.” For one thing, said Dickerman, there is a conditions car assigned to each of the precinct’s three shifts, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., 3 p.m. to 11 a.m., and 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. That car, he said, “Will address quality-of-life issues in parks, noise complaints, anything else that has to do with the 311 system.” In the past, Dickerman noted, “We’ve had a lot of noise complaints, things like that. Anything chronic, these cars are going to follow up, on all the shifts.” To report specific locations, Dickerman urged his listeners to call him at 718-257-6315. While the precinct is poised to handle such issues, it has been tackling crime. “We have a lot of young officers out in the street,” said Dickerman. “They are doing a great job, keeping crime down, and arrests are up. We are just out there, working for you.” As of the week ending April 24th, the 69th Precinct was down 11.55 percent, year to date, compared to 2004, in the seven index crimes.
