Queensborough (16-5) has earned the No. 2 seed in the Region XV playoffs and will face third-seeded Nassau Community College (13-8) Friday at 3 p.m. at Suffolk Community. Left fielder Bobby Manzolillo started the rally with an RBI-groundout that scored first baseman Relyn Estrada. Tommy Reo, who was named the MVP of the tournament, belted a two-run home run to right-center field to cut the Tigers deficit to 6-4. A double by David Mercado brought QCC to within one before Danny Rosenbluth tied the game with a double to left center.Queensborough loaded the bases in the 10th inning and Bronx reliever Kristopher McLennan uncorked a wild pitch to score Frank Russo with the eventual winning run.QCC reliever Danny DioGuardi retired the Broncos in order in the bottom of the inning to record the win. He tossed four innings of one-hit relief, striking out six.”My arm felt fantastic tonight,” DioGuardi said. “I threw over 100 pitches Tuesday and coach asked me if I could give an inning or two tonight. It's a great feeling because that's a great team we beat.”Reo, a former Richmond Hill star, went 3-for-3 with a home run, a single, a triple, two walks, got hit by a pitch and stole a base to earn MVP honors.”Tonight's performance was definitely one of the best games that I've had,” Reo said.Queensborough catcher Anthony Gonzalez was named Region XV Player of the Year and, along with Felipe Martinez, is an All-American nominee.Both players, along with Reo, were named to the All-Region XV first team. Rosenbluth was named to the second team.Queens goes 0-for-2 in NCAA Division II tennis regionalsConcordia College ended the Queens men's tennis team's dream of a regional championship and a trip to Florida for the Sweet 16 when they beat Queens, 5-0 in Flushing Friday afternoon. Concordia won all three meetings with Queens this year.Doubles teams Wojciech Stuchlik/Billy Almeyda and Ricardo Yepes/Brian Leo lost by identical 8-5 scores while Costas Efstathiou and Jimmy Delevante dropped an 8-6 result. Leo and Almeyda also lost their singles matches.The Queens College women lost to Bryant University, 5-2 last Thursday in the opening round of the NCAA Division II East Regional hosted by Kutztown University in Kutztown, Pa. Dominika Bajuk and Karen Chang won 8-5 at first doubles, but Queens dropped the other two doubles matches and four of the five singles matches.
