“If we would have gone 0-for-8, it will still be a successful season because it's been such an incredible run,” Boehm said. The boys from the Ridgewood-based club did better than that; they broke their own record established a year ago by bringing five State Cup trophies to Queens. On a very special – and very warm – Saturday, Gottschee went 5-for-6 in State Cup finals and lost both title games they played on Sunday. While all five teams walked away with championship medals and a trophy, the Under-11 team also got an all-expenses paid trip to France after they beat the Alleycats, 6-0 Saturday morning. For a second year in a row, Gottschee will represent the United States in the Danone Nation's Cup. This year the competition will take place in Lyon, France from Aug. 30-Sept. 5.Kevin Palaez put Gottschee on the board right away, scoring about 35 seconds into the game. Joshua Lino followed in the fifth minute and Nick Orsaris and Devin Morgan scored late in the first half to give Gottschee a 4-0 lead.”If I were a kid I would love to have this ride with them,” said Gottschee U-11 coach Peter Solon. “It's an ultimate experience. That's what it's all about; it's giving them the experience of a lifetime.”Giuseppe Calio added a pair of goals two minutes apart early in the second half to help Gottschee to repeat as U-11 State Cup champs and another trip to France.”I'm very excited,” Calio said. “It's great because Gottschee rocks.”Last year Miguel Brunengo coached his team to a State Cup title and a trip to Paris, France. This year, his team repeated as State Cup champs, defeating a stingy Northport/Cow Harbor United squad, 2-0 in the boys' Under-12 title game.David Diosa scored less than three minutes into the game and Eddie Caraccioli added the all-important insurance marker in the final 15 minutes of the second half.”We didn't play well. We have a problem on grass,” Brunengo said. “We train on (FieldTurf) and it definitely plays different than grass. I had a lot of injuries and also Northport didn't let us play our game. They were on top of us all the time, so it wasn't easy.”Gottschee's Under-13 team tied the record for State Cup titles by one club by beating Massapequa ISA Aces, 3-0. Dominick Sarle scored a pair of first half goals and Alex Bramall added a second half goal for Gottschee. It was a difficult game for Gottschee, but they made a key adjustment, said coach Flavio Ferri.”The adjustment is, and it's the toughest thing at a young age, is patience,” Ferri said. “These kids want it, they work and sometimes you have to slow things down and it's very hard for a young kid to learn how to do. We didn't do it as well as we could have but we definitely did it enough to come away with the win.”A.J. Laza netted a hat trick, Stanley Ballantyne added two goals and Adriano Gabriele and Nicky Costa each scored a goal for Gottschee in a 7-1 win over the Rivertown Rats in the boys' Under-15 title game.”This morning is a final so you feel the pressure but we responded well and it went our way,” Gottschee U-14 coach Frank Gabriele said. “We could play better but it's a final and in a final you cannot be too much into (how you play). I'm very proud of the young guys.”In a hard-fought, scrappy game, Gottschee defeated Brentwood Excel United, 1-0 to end a busy Saturday at Peter C. Collins Soccer Park. Giorgio Ferrara scored the lone goal in the third minute of the game.”They've played well in the past and lost and today they played ugly and won,” Gottschee coach Cesar Markovic said. “They'll take it.”The boys' U-10 team lost a heartbreaking 3-2 decision to the Dix Hills Thunder Saturday after rallying from a two-goal deficit to tie it at 2. On Sunday, Gottschee lost both of the State Cup games it played in; the U-17s fell to the New Rochelle Raiders, 2-0 and the U-18s were edged by Stony Brook Premier, 1-0.Reach Sports Editor Dylan Butler by e-mail at TimesLedger@aol.com or call 718-229-0300, Ext. 143.
