A paroled burglar was re-arrested last week after he confessed to breaking into two businesses on Court Street, cops from the 76th Precinct said. According to police the suspect, identified as 37-year-old Louis Ciaola, was taken into custody after he allegedly returned to one of the two locations he burglarized on the night of January 10. Sources said that Ciaola may have returned to the location because he was afraid that the business owner was “mobbed up.” Ciaola, who police said has a extensive criminal record and is considered a “known burglar,” reportedly broke into PJ Hanley’s at 449 Court Street sometime after 1 a.m. on January 10, as well as Casa Rosa Restaurant at 384 Court Street, according to officials. Workers at PJ Hanley’s said that they closed their establishment at 1 a.m. on the night in question. When they arrived to clean the place at 8:30 a.m., they realized that someone had shattered an ornate French window and had gotten inside. Employees found the cash register empty on a chair. An undetermined amount of money was missing. That same morning, workers at Casa Rosa went to the restaurant to find that someone had broken into the place through a side view window. Whoever broke in, officials said, took $11 in receipts, but left leaving over $250 in damage. Workers had reported the break-in, but were quite surprised later that afternoon when Ciaola came to the restaurant, claiming that he had broken into the restaurant. At the time, Ciaola was with a friend, who had apparently convinced him that it would be better for him to surrender. Police believe that Ciaola thought that the owners of Casa Rosa were “mobbed up” although that belief couldn’t be father from the truth, officials said. Ciaola also admitted to breaking into PJ Hanley’s, officials said. Police Officer Oliver Gomez of the 76th Precinct Anti-Crime team charged Ciaola with burglary.
