Archbishop Molloy runs over St. Francis

By Dylan Butler

“I don't know what happened,” Catherall said. “It slipped, I guess.”When she was on the court Saturday night, Catherall couldn't miss. But when she was saddled with foul trouble – as was the case in the second and third quarters – Archbishop Molloy took advantage of waif-thin St. Francis Prep in a 65-47 home win.Catherall finished with a game-high 23 points, but she was sidelined for the final 3:22 of the second quarter and Molloy (13-5, 6-3) went on a devastating 12-0 run and led by 11 at the half. The senior guard opened the second half with a three-pointer but picked up her fourth foul with 3:20 left in the third quarter. The Stanners closed out the quarter on a 16-3 run and led 52-31 heading into the fourth quarter.”I think a couple of them weren't fouls, though, but it happens,” said Catherall, who is being courted by C.W. Post, Queens College and Bentley College. “It bothered me [to be on the bench] but I had faith in my girls. I think we played very well tonight…but we just didn't finish.”With Maiza Mock still sidelined with a shoulder injury suffered against Mary Louis Jan. 20, Ashley McQuillan hurt and Emma Gorynski slowed by a sore knee, St. Francis Prep (4-14, 0-7) became very young and inexperienced with Catherall on the bench.”That does hurt,” St. Francis Prep coach JoAnn Wagner said. “She wants the ball and doesn't give up. I guess I'd rather she do that than be complacent. She had a fantastic game today, when she was in.”Molloy was without guard E.J. Dreyer, who is out for the season with an undisclosed medical condition. But the Stanners received contributions from several players and dominated in the post with Angelina Waterman (13 rebounds) and Cathy Aguirre scoring 14 points apiece.”Gina's a very good player,” Aguirre said. “But when she's out we have to score as much as we can.”Lisa Iannotto had 10 points, including back-to-back three-pointers to end the second quarter, and Queens College-bound Janine Maser added 10 points for Molloy, which is in a fight with Bishop Kearney and Mary Louis for second place in Brooklyn/Queens Division I.”We've tried so many different starting lineups this year but people are stepping up,” Molloy coach Marty Towey said. “We have no superstars here, none.”Reach Sports Editor Dylan Butler by e-mail at TimesLedger@aol.com or call 718-229-0300, Ext. 143.
