The city may have gotten its way when it began construction on a massive underground water filtration plant in Van Cortlandt Park last year, but community leaders long opposed to the project have not given up their fight to limit its impact on surrounding neighborhoods.
Residents and environmental leaders in the northwest Bronx are now focusing their efforts on getting the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to install top-of-the-line pollution filters on the 50-plus diesel-powered dump trucks hauling tons of dirt and rock through Norwood and Van Cortlandt Village every day.
