Officials from the city’s medical examiner’s office have been charged with identified the badly decomposed remains of a male found floating along the waters off of Bay Ridge. A man taking a walk along Shore Parkway near 88th Street made the gruesome discovery just before 11 a.m. on February 2. The body was found floating by a crag of rocks near the shoreline, just feet away from the promenade, officials said. Members of the NYPD’s Harbor Unit were dispatched to retrieve the body, which was found wearing only a pair of blue undershorts. A preliminary investigation determined that the remains had been in the water for some time – possibly for several months. The remains were so badly decomposed that cops could not determine the victim’s race, age, or an initial cause of death. As of this writing, detectives were waiting for the results of an autopsy before they continue with their investigation. Anyone with information regarding this discovery is urged to call the NYPD CrimeStoppers hotline at (800) 577-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
