A Bay Ridge boy on his way to school was maimed Wednesday following a horrendous car crash on Fort Hamilton Parkway. As this paper was going to press, the alleged drunk driver who sparked the 8:15 a.m. accident on January 24 was in the hospital and had not been arraigned by prosecutors from the Kings County District Attorney’s office. It seems that this will be the only respite that 29-year-old Jian Huang will have before he answers for the January 24 crash that led to six injuries. The worst, by far, however, were the injuries incurred on an 11-year-old Jackie Huang, who, despite the irony, has no connection to the Alexandria, Virginia resident allegedly responsible for putting the tragedy in motion. Officials said that the William McKinley Junior High School was pinned beneath one of the vehicles that slammed into each other at the corner of 65th Street. His injuries were so severe that doctors had to amputate his foot, officials said. Witnesses said that the bloody crash took place at the height of rush hour. “I ran over there and I saw people lying all over the street,” recalled one witness, who was working at a nearby fruit stand when the carnage took place. “I called 911. I told the guy, ‘You have to send as many ambulances as you can.’” Officials said that Huang was driving a white Lexus eastbound on 65th Street when he struck a black pick-up truck traveling northbound on Fort Hamilton Parkway. After careening off the pick-up truck, Huang slammed into a blue van on the westbound side of 65th Street that was stopped at the light. He then careened into a crosswalk where young Huang and his friends were crossing the street. Police said that the children had the right of way as they entered the intersection. As predicted, multiple ambulances were called to render aid to the 50-year-old driver of the pick-up truck and the 40-year-old male driving the van, who were removed to area hospitals for evaluation. The younger Huang, a 13-year-old schoolmate and a 26-year-old woman were all rushed to the hospital with serious injuries. The woman caring for Huang suffered injuries to her hip, officials said. His 13-year-old friend suffered injuries to his head and arm. The suspect was taken into custody at the scene. A 20-year-old woman found in the Lexus with Huang was taken to an area hospital with head trauma, officials said.
