We were greeted by Mark S. Connery, Manager, and then turned over to Patricia Silverman, our charming and knowledgeable server. We discussed a tasting menu with her and went happily along with her suggestions.
Our first tasting was of Handmade Maryland Crab Cakes - one of my all time favorites. Delicious as always. Following was the soup course - a rich and creamy cup of New England clam chowder and a cup of the house specialty, Mediterranean Seafood Soup ($4 each). The seafood soup was chock full of bite sized pieces of fish, shrimp etc. and thick enough to be eaten with a fork.
The round, crusty, whole loaf of bread was great for sopping up the juices of our next serving - large mussels in an unusual sauce that included white wine and flavored with chorizo and cherry tomatoes. It was a delicious, interesting but very tasty combination of flavors. We also tried the Ipswich clams available both in broth and baked.
New additions to the lengthy menu were items from the Raw Bar including oysters, clams, sushi and sashimi prepared by Rudy and accompanied by slivers of ginger and Wasabi. We also enjoyed the oriental dumplings served in a bamboo steamer.
All are a good representation of Asian dishes.
Before going to London Lennie’s, check their menu on their website www.londonlennies.com. The menu changes daily to feature what is freshest in the market.
For the main course, we had tasty, small Nantucket Bay Scallops - lightly crusted and sweet. My partner enjoyed the still-flakey Smokey Citrus Mahi Mahi - grilled with pineapple salsa and buried under a pile of French fried slender sticks of sweet potato. An excellent choice! Note - The house cole slaw, always served before the entr/e, lived up to its rich, crisp and tasty reputation.
Although we were filled with Patricia’s tasting menu, we could not resist the Crme Brl/ - a large, crispy-topped custard any French chef would be proud to serve. And, it was more than enough for two ($7). A bonus choice!
Added Bonus: London Lennie’s has a special arrangement with the Queens Theater in the Park. When you present your ticket stubs upon arrival, you get 50 percent off one appetizer or one dessert.
