After winning seven of eight, including a pair against impressive out-of-state teams two weeks ago in the Big Apple Basketball HS Invitational, the Judges fell on hard times again against St. Dominic's of Oyster Bay, L.I., Sunday night in the Crotty Classic at Hofstra University's Mack Sports Complex.Cardozo fell behind by 19 points in the second half, got within four points with 1:12 left in the game, but could not get over the hump in a 73-67 loss.”I really thought this was a game we were gonna win even playing bad,” Judges coach Ron Naclerio said. “I don't know what team I'm gonna get from quarter to quarter.”Cardozo (13-4) didn't come out with any intensity, in contrast to its rout of San Diego, a team that boasts the best sophomore in the country, on Jan. 21. Naclerio calls this team, one that has more league losses (three) than a Judges squad has had in more than 20 years, his most enigmatic ever.”I don't think a lot of our guys give it (their all) all the time on the court,” said Iona-bound senior point guard Trinity Fields, who had 20 points.Senior Edy Toussaint led Cardozo with 23 points and Dennis Oglesby added 10. Dan Kenny had 26, Brian Katz had 19 and P.J. Walters added 11 for St. Dom's.”We're gonna bounce back,” Fields said. “The playoffs – that's what matters, right?”Reach Associate Sports Editor Marc Raimondi by e-mail at mraimondi@timesledger.com or call 718-229-0300, Ext. 130.
