As spring - and Valentine’s Day - approaches, many of us are bitten by the “love bug.” It is that time of year again when hallway love interests are in full bloom.
However, before you fall head over heels for that guy or girl you pass every day at his locker, I advise you to “look before you leap.”
As all of my friends seem to be “falling,” I catch myself wondering if all high school crushes are the same.
It starts out innocently enough; first you see him in the halls. Then you have a ‘moment’ when your eyes meet for one fleeting second.
The next thing you know you are having your friend tell a guy that sits in his 3rd period class to tell him that you think he is cute. Phone numbers are exchanged, texts are sent, and the rest is history. But all of these crushes are so time consuming!
I myself am guilty as charged of spending nights-on-end texting and talking to a guy, only to have him ask me advice about one of my friends!
It is exciting that a guy is showing interest in you, but at the same time, it is distracting you from your actual life - family, friends, school, and ambitions.
I cannot tell you how many times I have stayed up until 3 a.m. talking to a guy because he paid me the slightest attention. And what do I have to show for it? Puffy circles under my eyes and a cumbersome load of homework unfinished!
The bottom line is - do not invest all of your time in a high school crush that may or may not work out.
Instead of charging ahead, get to know him or her as a friend first and then take it from there.
You do not want to get in over your head too soon.
Take everything with a light heart and look at all crushes
