Curran misses 899; Cross pounds Prep

By Dylan Butler

Barring a stunning upset in the CHSAA Class AA intersectional playoffs, that seems unlikely now that Molloy was eliminated in the Brooklyn/Queens Diocesan playoffs by Xaverian, 68-61, Monday night at Christ the King. The Clippers will face Brooklyn rival Bishop Loughlin, the top seed in the tournament, in a semifinal game scheduled for Wednesday at St. Francis Prep. Meanwhile, Molloy will play either St. Peter's or All Hallows in an intersectional first-round game Sunday afternoon at Holy Cross.A win in that game would give Curran 899 career victories.”I was hoping this was going to be win No. 899,” Grogan said. “I'm really disappointed.”Grogan and Ashton Pankey scored 16 points apiece, while Russell Smith had 10 points for Molloy, which couldn't stop a balanced, well-executed offense from a Xaverian team that played one of its best games of the season.”We didn't have much energy, the team didn't play seem to have any intensity,” Curran said. “I don't know what it was, the atmosphere maybe. There was no excitement in the gym.”Holy Cross 81, St. Francis Prep 51.
