The boys of James Monroe Campus had much more to celebrate on Wednesday, February 6, than just a strong 76-39 victory over John Addams High School.
At the last regular season home game, James Monroe was also celebrating its annual Senior Day facilities, honoring the accomplishments of players in their final year with the team.
With parents, family and friends in the crowd, it was apparent from the very beginning that Monroe was on a mission to make their fans proud. The Monroe Eagles put on a show, backed by Stanley Brooks, a senior with 8 points, at the halftime mark; his team up 36-16, as the Senior Day ceremonies began.
Seniors brought their moms up and handed them each a half dozen roses, while the boys themselves received a large picture frame, including three pictures of them and an inscription with their name and number on it. It was both fun and emotional for the team and their fans, who shared in the memories of what has been a year of comeback.
After upsets over Wings Academy and Thurgood Marshall, Monroe suffered a setback on Monday, February 4, losing 65-50 in a rematch with Wings. Monroe jumped right back on the horse, beating DeWitt Clinton 61-53 the following day before heading into the Senior Day game against John Addams.
