After nearly two years of discussion and planning with Community Board 11 and local residents, the Department of Education is moving ahead with the construction of two new schools in Morris Park.
The 65,000-square-foot building at 1640 Bronxdale Avenue, which housed a manufacturer of jewelry and pots, is currently being demolished to make way for a K to 8 charter school and a pre-k to 8 public school.
Because of the extensive revamping necessary to convert the current facility into an educational venue, John Fratta, district manager of CB 11, said total demolition of the existing property is the most cost effective construction solution.
