Nicole Marra, Bayside

Year: Senior
Sport: Softball

Nicole Marra’s junior season was impressive. Her senior year, thus far, is on par.

In the circle, with a four-pitch repertoire, she is 4-0 with a microscopic 0.64 earned run average, 48 strikeouts in 22 innings, eight hits allowed and six walks. She has tossed two shutouts, of Martin Van Buren and Townsend Harris, while also batting .786 with two homeruns, 12 runs batted in, nine runs scored and six doubles.

“Nicole’s a gamer,” Bayside Coach Stephen Piorkowski said.

As a junior, despite gaudy numbers that included 178 punch-outs and eight shutouts, Marra, a Fresh Meadows native, was often nervous she would implode. After leading the Commodores to an undefeated league season, she is sure of her abilities.

“I knew I could do better,” she said. “I’ve built up by confidence.”

“She knows what she’s doing more with the ball,” catcher Danielle Brustmeyer said. “She making the ball move to the corners and working batters.”
