In one of their best performances of the season, the Auburndale Dragons defeated the Plainview Old Bethpage Wildfire, 8-0, at Fort Totten Saturday morning.
Danielle Magnozzi got the Dragons off to the perfect start after only five minutes, converting a cross from the right wing and added a second goal three minutes later.
Amberly Cabral scored her first goal for the club in the 20th minute, and in the waning moments of the first half, Dragons goalkeeper Celeste Trevellini came off her line and made a spectacular diving save to her left to preserve the shutout.
Deanna Lucci and Kristen Pulley were once again outstanding in defense, and the midfield for the most part had it all their own way. Before the match ended Amberly completed her brace, Gina Giraldi made it five, and Katie McPhillips scored a hat-trick in five minutes.
It was the third successive match that a different Dragon player scored a hat trick.
The Dragons face New Hyde Park Saturday in the league and then play league leaders Farmingdale Flash who remain undefeated, in the quarterfinals of the Waldbaum's Cup Sunday.
