Chamber to host summer beach networking

If you thought the Major League Baseball All Star Game was the hottest event in the city this summer, you had better think again. The Queens Chamber of Commerce’s business card exchange at Harry’s Water Taxi Beach is sure to bring excitement and sizzle to the summer as well as some new business opportunities.
“People are tired of traditional business card exchanges,” said Queens Chamber of Commerce Executive Vice President Jack Friedman. “We’re shaking things up here. This Beach Party will not only offer great networking opportunities, but it will be fun.”
On Wednesday August 6, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Chamber members can trade their suits and ties for a polo shirt and sandals as they network on the sand of the Long Island City beach.
“They get to see that there is another world on the other side of the East River,” said Tom Fox, President of New York Water Taxi, who mentioned that the people coming to the beach from Manhattan get to patronize the different stores in the area.
In addition to the three hours of networking and beautiful views, those who attend the business card exchange will also be entertained by the sounds of Pulse 87, who is a media sponsor of the event.
“We’re looking to attract all the young, urban professionals who live in Long Island City, Woodside, Astoria and Sunnyside along with all of our current membership for some hot dogs and beer for what I anticipate will be the hottest event in Queens this summer,” Friedman said.
In the four years that the beach has been in existence, it has grown in popularity each year.
“The beach itself has really become a Long Island City landmark and an asset for the community,” said Fox, who mentioned that the beach often serves as the venue for other local events.
The cost of the networking event is $20 for members ($25 at the door) and $30 for non-members ($35 at the door). For more information or to register visit www.queenschamber.org or call 718-898-8500.
