Con Edison should not raise rates for service

It is unbelievable that Con Edison announced a major rate hike ranging from 22 percent for homeowners to 25 percent for businesses.

Are they living in the real world? This utility could not restore power to parts of Queens for nearly 11 days two summers ago or handle a major steam pipe explosion last July and now wants everybody to pay more in their monthly utility bills?

The workers certainly do deserve their recent pay hike because they are hard-working and dedicated. They have families to support and bills to pay just like the rest of us.

As for their CEO, Kevin Burke, and his staff of vice presidents, however, they should take a 25 percent cut in pay since times are so difficult. I do not think they earn their salaries at all.
