The 109th Precinct Community Council underwent a changing of the guard last week as six of the seven officers who have served the group for the last eight years left their posts.
The Council held its annual elections at the 109th Precinct House Nov. 12 — the first time any position has gone to a new face in nearly a decade.
Wanda Beck Antosh, who has served as the president of the community council since 2000, said passed incoming President Chrissy Voskerichian a gabble she said was given to her following her election nearly a decade ago.
“I’ve had a great time and I hope all of you have, too,” Antosh said. “It’s my turn to be out there in the audience as a general member now.”
The six new members ran for the Council unopposed. Vana Partridge will serve as the new vice president, Rhea O’Gorman was elected as the recording secretary, Kris Ram was elected corresponding secretary, Fred Fu was elected as secretary and Richie Milligan was elected to serve as sargeant−at−arms.
Katherine Williams, the only member of the previous administration, to run for re−election, defeated Anthony Sbarra to remain treasurer in the only contested seat up for grabs.
Voslerichian said she was pleased by the opportunity to serve the community
“I’m very honored to be asked to serve in this role,” she said. “I’m looking forward to an exciting and productive year.”
Antosh, a fixture in the community as an activist for decades, was honored with a proclamation by outgoing Assemblywoman Ellen Young (D−Flushing), who commended her years of service in the community.
The 109th Precinct covers one of the largest areas in the city, including the communities of Flushing, North Flushing, Whitestone, College Point, Beechhurst, Malba, Murray Hill and parts of Bay Terrace.
