EAST ELMHURST — A 33−year−old Elmhurst man was arrested earlier this year after he allegedly attempted to break into a woman’s apartment in East Elmhurst and then attacked a neighbor who attempted to intervene, the Queens district attorney said.
Alfredo Pedrero, of 40−23 Gleane St. in Elmhurst, was arraigned Jan. 7 before Queens Criminal Court Judge Ira Margulis on charges of assault, criminal trespass, resisting arrest and harassment, Queens DA Richard Brown said.
The defendant, released on his own recognizance, will return to court Feb. 19, Brown said.
According to the criminal complaint, an East Elmhurst woman heard loud banging on her apartment’s front door and saw that the latch on the door was the only thing keeping it shut, the DA said. The woman allegedly saw the defendant kicking and pounding the door and she attempted to push it shut, Brown said.
A 30−year−old neighbor opened his door and the defendant allegedly pushed the victim into his apartment and began punching him in the head and body, causing a laceration to his hand, the DA said.
