KEW GARDENS — A Richmond Hill teacher pleaded guilty to sending sex videos to three of his female students in 2007, Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said.
Umesh Ramjattan, 24, of 91−71 115th St., surrendered his teaching licence and will be forced to register as a sex offender after pleading guilty to charges of disseminating indecent material to minors.
“The defendant has admitted to sending indecent messages and pictures to several of his students during his first teaching assignment,” Brown said. “A classroom should always be a safe place for a child and a teacher should never abuse his or her position of trust and influence. This case should serve as a clear and unmistakable warning that law enforcement is prepared to apprehend and prosecute those who attempt to engage in illicit activity involving children.”
Police said that in 2007, while working as an English teacher at MS 137 in Ozone Park, Ramjattan sent a video showing him and his girlfriend having sex as well as a slew of sexually suggestive e−mails and instant messages. Police said the parents of one of the girls notified police and Ramjattan was arrested a short time later.
Brown said Ramjattan will likely be sentenced to serve five years on probation as part of his plea deal.
