LONG ISLAND CITY — A 34−year−old Bronx woman was arrested after she allegedly stole $7,000 from the supply company at which she worked, the Queens district attorney said.
Amina Gonzalez, who lives in the Bronx, was arraigned April 20 before Queens Criminal Court Judge Toko Serita on a grand larceny charge, Queens DA Richard Brown said. The defendant, released on her own recognizance, will return to court May 12, he said.
Gonzalez worked as a bookkeeper for Long Island City−based Stillwell Supply Corp. on Vernon Boulevard. One of her job responsibilities was to deposit all sales proceeds into the company’s bank account.
On April 4, the store’s owner reviewed the contents of its cash box and found that more than $6,000 was missing, the DA said. As of April 20, the box was missing at least $7,000, he said.
The defendant allegedly admitted to police that she had taken a total of $7,000 from the box since November 2008 and that she could repay the money by the end of last month, Brown said.
