After a long period of dormancy, the Queensboro Hill Neighborhood Association said this week it is poised for a revival.
The once−active civic association elected Don Capalbi, longtime activist and liaison for state Assemblywoman Grace Meng (D−Flushing), as its new president last week.
The civic group had been quiet for the better part of the last year as its longtime president, Phyllis McAuliffe, waged a lengthy battle with cancer. McAuliffe died March 15.
“Our civic has been at the forefront of many issues facing Hill residents over the years and achieved many successes on their behalf,” Queensboro Hill Neighborhood Association Board Chairwoman Bessie Gasparre said. “We urge all area residents and businesses to join us as we continue to be a major proponent of quality of life in Queensboro Hill.”
Capalbi is a longtime resident of Queensboro Hill and serves as vice president of Terence Park’s Our Flushing Political Coalition and a member of the executive board of the Democratic Club of Flushing.
He is a member of numerous organizations in the Queens community, including the Flushing Chamber of Commerce, New York Hospital Queens Community Advisory Council, 109th Precinct Community Council, Kissena Corridor Park Conservancy, NAACP, Lions Club, Knights of Columbus and Society for Accessible Travel and Hospitality.
Capalbi said he was looking forward to leading the civic group.
“I look forward to working with the other civics of Flushing and nearby areas, and with Community Board 7, to resolve the myriad pressing issues that face us all,” he said. “Our civic will endeavor to fairly represent residents from all the many races and ethnicities in our community.”
