Bartender escaped assault by patron, DA

JAMAICA — Police said a 28-year-old man was arrested last week for allegedly attempting — and failing — to attack a Jamaica bartender.

According to a criminal complaint filed by the Queens district attorney, Juan Pablo Rivera, of 88-11 179th Street, was arraigned on reckless endangerment and attempted assault charges June 8 for allegedly chucking a beer bottle at a bartender who asked him to leave his establishment the night before.

Authorities said Rivera was asked to leave a bar at 170-13 Jamaica Ave. at around 6 p.m. June 7, but refused to do so. He allegedly picked up a beer bottle on the counter of the bar and hurled it at the bartender, missing him, and was arrested a short time later.

The bartender escaped unhurt, but a cash register suffered minor damage in the melee, authorities said.
