On July 29, I had a doctor’s appointment near the corner of Parsons Boulevard and Union Turnpike. Going home, I noticed an NYPD Traffic Enforcement car had parked right in front of the bus stop shelter.
I turned around to see the traffic enforcement officer sitting in the front window of the KFC behind the bus stop, obliviously feeding his face. The other people waiting at the stop, and soon the bus driver, were as disturbed at this as I was, particularly since the Q25 and Q34 buses arrived at the same time, creating a potentially dangerous back-up on the street.
Some of us started snapping cell phone pictures of the car in disbelief. The most galling part of all this was that KFC’s parking lot, less than 20 feet away, was completely empty. If the NYPD Traffic Enforcement Division so openly and inconsiderately flouts its own regulations, how can it expect to engender the public’s confidence and trust?
