BAYSIDE %u2013 A Flushing man was arraigned on charges he stole items from Bayside vehicles he rummaged through and had drugs in his possession, a spokeswoman for Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said
Mark Durando, 22, of 198-48 32nd Ave. in Flushing, was arraigned Dec. 11 before Queens Criminal Court Judge Lenora Gerald, who set bail at $5,000, on charges of criminal possession of stolen property, petit larceny, unauthorized use of a vehicle, criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal possession of a weapon and unlawful possession of marijuana, the spokeswoman said.
An eyewitness said he saw Durando rummaging through a vehicle belonging to another man in front of 32-36 201st St. in Bayside Dec. 10, according to the criminal complaint.
An officer said he observed and recovered a ziplock bag from Durando that contained marijuana from Durando’s front pants pocket along with an ecstasy pill and a gravity knife, the complaint said.
The officer also recovered a driver’s license in somebody else’s name, a debit card, a credit card, an iPod, wallet and a TomTom navigation system from the defendant’s pockets, the complaint said.
Durando allegedly admitted to the officer that he stole the items because he was homeless and needed the money, according to the complaint.
