So what exactly killed a party promoter who may have been involved in a robbery at a Laurelton club last week?

Investigators said they were working hard to find out.

The Queens district attorney’s office said it had not charged two club employees who were arrested in the death of Gilroy Davis March 15 as of press time Tuesday. Davis was arrested by officers at the Clippers II lounge at 234-36 Merrick Blvd. Monday morning, after the venue was robbed by two unapprehended suspects, police said.

Davis, who was a party promoter, was allegedly caught by one of the lounge’s workers helping the suspects with the robbery, according to a police source.

“He was heard in the bathroom giving information to the other person who was taking the money,” the source said.

Two of the club’s employees grabbed Davis while they waited for the police to arrive and allegedly beat him with a broom handle, according to the source. While he was being handcuffed, Davis was not in any sort of pain, but when he arrived at the 105th Precinct he complained about chest pains, the source said.

“He walked into the precinct and he was good,” the source said before Davis began complaining about the pains.

An ambulance was called in and the suspect was sent to Queens Hospital Center, where he was pronounced dead a short time later, police said.

As of press time Tuesday, the city Medical Examiner’s office had not determined a cause of death and was still investigating. The police arrested the two men who allegedly assaulted Davis, but they were charged with assault and let go, according to the source.

Additional charges are awaiting the medical examiner’s report, according to a spokeswoman for the DA’s office. The owners of Clippers II could not be reached for comment as of press time Tuesday.
